Imagine biting into a savory onion bomb that bursts with the flavor of a classic cheeseburger, melded with crispy bacon and gooey cheddar cheese. Perfect for game day, backyard barbecues, or an easy dinner, these gourmet st■ onions bring a unique twist to traditional grilling.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
4 large sweet onions
Olive oil for brushing
Optional: fresh herbs for garnish (e.g., chives or parsley)
Instructions
Preheat the grill or oven: If grilling, preheat your grill to medium heat (around 350°F). For oven baking, preheat to 375°F.
Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Prepare the onions: Carefully slice the tops off the onions and peel away the outer layers. Use a melon baller to scoop out the insides, leaving about a 1/2-inch thick shell.
Stuff the onions: Generously fill each onion shell with the cheeseburger mixture. Pack it in well but don’t overstuff.
Brush with oil: Lightly brush the outside of each st■ onion with olive oil.
Cooking: If grilling, place the st■ onions on indirect heat, cover, and cook for about 30-40 minutes. If baking, place them in a baking dish and cover with foil for the first 20 minutes, then remove the foil for the last 10-15 minutes.
Serve: Once cooked, carefully remove the onions and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
