This delightful pastry marries the sweet, tangy flavors of apple filling with the warm spices of cinnamon, all encased in a flaky, buttery dough that practically melts in your mouth.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 cups All-purpose flour
1/4 cup Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Yeast (active dry)
1/2 cup Milk (warm)
1/2 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
1 large Egg (beaten)
2 cups Apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 cup Brown sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Add the softened butter, salt, and beaten egg to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
Gradually add the flour, mixing until the dough comes together. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
While the dough rises, prepare the apple filling. In a medium bowl, combine diced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and vanilla. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
Cut the dough into squares (about 4x4 inches) and place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each square.
Fold the corners of each square towards the center, pinching to seal. Place the prepared pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with a little melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar (1 tablespoon sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon mixed together) for extra flavor.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
